Sir Ian McK "Saves the George"

Ian McKellenStars including Ian McKellen, Amy Winehouse and Kate Moss have thrown their support behind the George Tavern's pub owner, Pauline Forster as she recently fought off developers who wanted to demolish an adjacent building and replace it with a five story complex. The Stepney pub is a poplar hangout for creative types in East London due to the fact that it has 360-degree light and boasts its own theatre, workshops, art galleries and concert hall. Forster said live music would be ruined at the venue because the shared wall between the pub and flats would make quiet living for residents impossible. Tower Hamlets council agreed and criticised the "over dominant" and "out of scale" development, which they said breached planning laws, as it rejected the proposals.
